LAV SMOKE DETECTOR FAIL MESSAGE ON EICAS.  REMOVED AND REPLACED LAV SMOKE DETECTOR IAW AMM 26-14-01 & TASK CARD 6271001.  OPS CHECK GOOD.  AIRCRAFT WAS APPROVED FOR RETURN TO SERVICE. OPS CHECK GOOD.  AIRCRAFT WAS APPROVED FOR RETURN TO SERVICE.
