ON GEAR RETRACTION,  CREW RECEIVED A SLAT FAIL MESSAGE.  RAN QRH, DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND RETURNED TO DEPARTURE.   LANDED AND TAXIED TO GATE WITHOUT INCIDENT.  MAINTENANCE TROUBLESHOT AND R & R THE RT OTBD SLAT HARNESS AND SKEW SENSOR IAW AMM AND OPS CHECKED GOOD.  ACFT IS GOOD FOR SERVICE.
