STRONG SMOKE SMELL ENTERED CABIN AT 9,000 FEET DURING DESCENT.  TUNRRNED OFF AIR CONDITIONER AND RECIRC FAN.  SMELL WENT AWAY.  DEFERRED FREON AIRCRAFT SYSTEM.  (X)
