AFTER DISCONNECTING GPU, DETECTED SMOKE IN COCKPIT, NOTICED EICAS BLANK AND MFD DISPLAYED AN AMBER "CHECK EICAS" MESSAGE.  R & R EICAS DISPLAY UNIT IAW AMM 34-22-01, OPS GOOD, SMELL SMOKE WAS FROM FAULTY EICAS DISPLAY.
