IRRITATING/ HARSH SMELL NOTED IN COCKPIT ON DEPARTURE. SMELL DISSIPATED AND RETURNED PERIODICALLY IN FLIGHT AND RETURNED PERSISTENTLY AT TOP OF DESCENT. (REPEAT EVENT) FOLLOWED FIM 21-20-00-810-801-A PER WORKSCOPE PROVIDED, A/C HAD COMPRESSOR WASH DONE TO E1 ON 5/19, PERFORMED ENGINE RUN FOR 15 MINS WITH DOORS OPEN PER FIM. PERFORMED ENGINE RUN UPS TO 70% WITH CREW AS REQUESTED BY MOD. NO SMELLS NOTED. PERFORMED BORESCOPE INSPECTION OF LH ENGINE HPC STAGES 1, 2, AND 3 IAW GE CF34-8E LMM 72-00-00. NO SMELLS NOTED. UNABLE TO REPLICATE SMELL ON GND.
