CREW HEARD (CLUNKING NOISE) FROM NR 1 ENGINE FOLLOWED BY FAILURE OF NR 1 ENGINE.  TORQUE NOSE GEAR AND FF DROPPED TO ZERO.  (AUTO SHUTDOWN) EVENT OCCURRED AT APPROX 7000 FT MSL.  15 MINUTES PRIOR TO FAILRE, CREW ACCOMPLISHED NORMAL TREND MONITORING.  EMERGENCY DECLARED AIRCRAFT LANDED.  INVESTIGATION WITH BOROSCOPE DISCOVERED FOREIGN OBJECT DAMAGE OF 5TH STAGE COMPRESSOR AND BACK.
