SMELL OF FUMES AT 0200Z DURING FLIGHT.  PERFORMED CHECKLIST.  FUMES NOT PRESENT WITH UTILITY BUSSES OFF.  DURING TROUBLESHOOTING, FOUND AIR COMPRESSOR FOR POTABLE WATER SYS AT FAULT, ITEM DEFERRED.  TRANSFERRED ITEM IAW DDG 38-10-01A.
