CREW REPORTED SLATS FAIL CAUTION MESSAGE IN FLIGHT.  CREW RETURNED TO FIELD AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT.  MAINTENANCE TROUBLESHOT, REPAIRED CHAFED WIRE IN CONNECTOR PLUG FOR RT SLAT BRAKE POSITION SENSOR UNIT AND PERFORMED CHECKS IAW AMM.  ACFT RELEASED FOR SERVICE.
