FAA Flight Program Operations Engineering Order Part B-I No. 19-05-04, “RH Aft Equipment Bay Shelf LAIRCM Preparation”, date 12/9/19 must be accomplished prior to this STC.

Compatibility of the alteration with other approved alterations is to be determined by the installer.

If the holder agrees to permit another person to use this certificate to alter the product, the holder shall give the other person written evidence of that permission.

A copy of this Certificate must be maintained as part of the permanent records for the modified aircraft.

FAA approved airplane flight manual supplement, “Installation of the Northrop Grumman Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasure (LAIRCM) System, AN/AAQ-24(v) Missile Defense System,” dated June 12, 2020, or later approved FAA (ODA) revision, is required.

Instructions for continued airworthiness, “Installation of the Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasure (LAIRCM) System, AN/AAQ-24(V),” M09640, dated March 20, 2020, or later accepted FAA (AEG) revision, is a required part of this modification.

FAA certification of this installation was limited to the evaluation of the electronic countermeasure equipment’s effects on the safe operation of the aircraft, and does not connote FAA endorsement of the effectiveness of the equipment in countering a Man Portable Air Defense System (MANPADS) threat.

In addition, the FAA has not evaluated the safety of the IR laser for use on the ground or in the air.

Operation of the IR laser, to include appropriate laser training for flight crew and maintenance personnel, should be in accordance with the intent of American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Standards Z136.1, Safe Use of Lasers, and Z136.6, Use of Lasers Outdoors.
