FAA inspection authorizations
21,522 mechanics hold an FAA inspection authorization (14 CFR 65.91), as the FAA’s Inspection Authorization Designee Search listed them on October 28, 2026. Check the name and certificate number on a logbook entry, a Form 337 or an annual inspection sign-off.
How to check an entry
- Type the number as it is signed: 1234567, 001234567 and 1234567 IA all work. Add the name to check both.
- Some certificate numbers, mostly older nine-digit ones, are shown only by their first and last digit (1,789 of them), so those can only partly match. The FAA’s Airmen Inquiry can confirm the full number.
- The list has current IA holders only. A mechanic with an airframe and powerplant certificate but no IA isn’t on it, and nothing here says whether a certificate was suspended.
- IAs expire on March 31 of each odd-numbered year (14 CFR 65.92). A holder who doesn’t renew drops off the next list.
About the list
From the FAA’s Inspection Authorization Designee Search, downloaded by hand and added to OpenAirDocs each month or so. Each person’s page shows when they were first and last on the lists OpenAirDocs has, starting with the list of October 28, 2026. Pages for people aren’t indexed by search engines.
