From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft veered off the left side of runway. (.4)the pilot was returning from a skydiving drop when he entered the airport traffic pattern, experienced an inflight loss of control, and then struck trees short of the runway. According to the pilot, just before turning to final, he 'heard what sounded like a stone hitting the side of an automobile.' The airplane rolled left despite corrective aileron control input by the pilot. The pilot did a go-around; however, the uncommanded left roll continued. The aircraft proceeded through about 180 degree of turn before the airspeed decreased, the aircraft pitched down, and a collision with trees occurred. Examination of the airplane revealed the aileron cable had fractured.

As the FAA filed it
