From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on January 1, 1995, at approximately 1700 EST, Cessna aircraft N1931H, departed ft. lauderdale (fll) on a pleasure flight. At Pompano (pmp) the pilot remained in the pattern for some touch and go's. on the third circuit during the base leg, the elevator control became very light and sluggish. He still had elevator effectiveness, but needs much more control input to achieve slight pitch changes. Still having control he turned from base to final with full flaps now in, he lost all elevator control. With power changes he was able to maintain a controlled stable descent and approach. The aircraft was landed safely without any damage or injury. After taxiing to the ramp the pilot inspected the aircraft and found the left hand elevator missing with the right hand elevator detached from its center attach point. The aircraft was inspected by maintenance and no other damage was found. A search of the area and approach to the airport was conducted but the elevator was not recovered. Malfunction/defect report submitted.
