From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: the aircraft departed Harrisburg, PA on an instrument flight to (2G6) port meadville airport. Upon reaching 7000' approximately 15NM nw of Harrisburg, the pilot in command noticed sparks and smoke coming from the #1 engine air inlet. A precautionary shutdown was made to the #1 engine and ATC was contacted for a return to MDT. A noneventfull emergency landing was made at MDT. Subsequent inspection by maintenance personnel revealed that the #1 engine inlet boot had shorted/overheated resulting in failure of the boot and minor local damage to underlying area on lower front cowling.
