From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Unable climb on takeoff. Wobled settled ran off end. Prop indicates power on impact. Found inop right magneto. (-23) on 01/22/95, at 1630 MST a stuart/wagner mountain eagle, N2176Z, piloted by an ATP rated pilot received substantial damage on going off the departure end of a Private, snow covered sod strip at a farm northeast of dickinson, ND. The aircraft is a homebuilt kit airplane and was being demonstrated to a prospective buyer. The pilot reported a power loss during the takeoff run. VFR conditions existed and there were no injuries. The pilot had just refueled from the strip owners fuel tank and initially suspected fuel contamination. No contamination was found. An a & p mechanic discovered a failed magneto and low compression on two cylinders. The aircraft was manufactured in 1994 and was within annual and 100 hour inspection limits.
