From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on 1/30/95 delta air lines 1149 (dale 1149) an ME-88 (N910DL) landed at Nashville International Airport, TN (bna) after a fight from atlanta, ga (atl). While dala 1149 was taxiing to the gate he advised bna ground control that he had "some smoke in the back of the plane, standby". In the gathering dusk the ground controller saw smoke at the aft section of the airplane and declared an "alert 3" to provide fire and rescue protection for dala 1149. Simultaneously dala 1149 was communicating with the American ramp control who advised him that he was "smoking like crazy" from the #2 engine. Shortly afterward dala 1149 declared that "we've got smoke coming out the back, we are evacuating the aircraft, brakes are set". The 111 passengers and 5 crew members were evacuated through R-1. L-1 door was opened and the escape chute deployed but was not used as was the tail cone jettisoned and chute deployed (also not used). Both right side overwing exits were removed but not used. Neither the left overwing exits nor L-2 were opened. Inspection of the aircraft revealed no evidence of fire nor was a source of the smoke located. Maintenance personnel test ran #2 engine with no malfunction noted. #2 engine was changed as a precautionary measure to allow further inspection for damage. No residual smoke was noted in the cabin during inspection one hour after the incident nor were there any external signs of fire. Maintenance records indicate that on the fourth flight leg prior to this incident N910DL, operating as dala 962, reported a "fumes and/or hot smell in cabin and cockpit" with airfoil anti-ice selected. "Smoke detectors went off in both lavs. Smell cleared almost immediately once airfoil anti-ice was turned off." Corrective action was completed by delta maintenance and no further occurrence was noted until this flight as dala 1149. Robert d. helms, aviation safety inspector.

As the FAA filed it
