From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: the engine in this aircraft has been recently overhauled, and the pilot stated he is still "flying it in". On this particular flight, the pilot elected to make an intersection departure from Chino Airport runway 21 with 3,700 feet available. During the take off roll or early in the take off the pilot detected what he described as a hesitation in the engine operation and elected to abort the take off. When breaking to a stop, the pilot ran off paved portion of the runway into a grassy overrun. The bottom portion of the left wing just outboard of the wing root struck a metal rod buried in the grass. The rod tore approximately 4 square feet of fabric.. The pilot taxied out of the grass to a tie down area to further assess damage. No other damage has been detected. The engine will be evaluated by an A&P. Fabric repairs will be made and an evaluation of the engine is also scheduled before further flight. privacy data omitted Pilot was operating with an expired medical certificate. This incident is closed.
