From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on February 17, 1995, at approximately 1445 local time, an aircraft, N8984, ayers S2R, was on a flight to dispense herbicide material with a full load. The aircraft was in level flight on the way to the field to be sprayed ten miles northeast of Cushing Municipal Airport. The pilot noticed the oil temperature was high and turned around to return to the airport. Then the oil pressure went low and the engine lost power. The pilot landed the aircraft on Oklahoma highway 33, one mile east of Cushing, Oklahoma. After landing, the wing collided with a road sign. Damage consisted of a punctured right wing skin and bent road sign. There were no injuries, no fire, and no chemicals were spilled. The pilot was the lone occupant of the aircraft. The pilot suspects the wright R-1820 engine main bearing failed. Metal was found in the oil sump after the aircraft was moved. After the engine is disassembled and the cause is found, a malfunction or defect report will be submitted. This incident is closed.
