From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on March 4, 1995 about 1325 hours pacific standard time. A Mooney m 20 f, N7148V operated by Mr. William james hopewell sustained minor damage during a touch and go flight operation at san bernardino airport. During the landing operation of the flight the landing gear collapsed in sequence, the left, the right then the nose gear. The instructor pilot (CFI) Mr. Mcaleer shut down the engine prior to the nose landing gear collapsing. The aircraft skid approximately 300 feet on the nose landing gear and the tail section of the aircraft. After the nose gear collapsed the aircraft skidded another 20 feet. The after incident investigation revealed that the landing gear motor bracket had worn rivets allowing the bracket to move. Some indication that the left landing gear was out of adjustment. This could not be substantiated. The left landing gear down limit switch had been replaced approximately 2 months prior to the incident. This incident is closed.
