From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: aircraft departed roseberg, or to laughlin, nv- bullhead city, AZ. During flight at 21000 ft. the engine started to run rough and quit. During an IFR descent the pilot iniated engine restart twice but no success. At about 1500 AGL the aircraft broke out of the overcast. The pilot selected a large flat field and during approach worked the propeller crosswise with the starter. Holding the nose high. The aircraft rolled into the muddy field. Stopping with the nose wheel deep in the mud. No damage or injuries. Unbeknown to the pilot the ELT had been activated and was later disabled by the local sheriff. 8.3 miles east of Susanville, CA. Pilot later reported other aircraft with same engine installation had experienced same type icing in the fuel injection system leading to engine stoppage. Holder of STC is presently making air baffles to curtail icing of injection unit.
