From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: aircraft took off from ft. collins downtown airpark from runway 29 and turned east. At approximately 3 miles from airport the pilot reduced power and the engine began running rough. Increasing mixture and turning on boost pump did not solve problem. Pilot landed in a field near the intersection of highway 14 and I25. On roll out the pilot turned left and then right to avoid a ditch at which time the left gear dug into the sod causing it to fold back. Damage to the aircraft was limited to a hole in the fabric covered plywood skin from the left gear folding back. The left motor mount broke and there was a crack in the lower cowling where the left gear attaches to the motor mount. Engine running rough was due to water contamination in fuel tank. Mechanic found a pocket of water in the tank after draining out all the fuel and inspecting the tank.
