From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: Cessna 172RG, N9746B, owned and operated by mac dan aviation, a part 141 flight school (certificate #DZXS190K) experienced an unsafe gear indication (no green light, activated gear warning horn) while on approach to runway 22 at Essex County Airport (cdw). The instructor pilot, warren loveless, who was occupying the right seat took control of the aircraft from leonard habas, a private pilot who was working on his instrument rating. Mr. Loveless flew the aircraft by the cdw tower who confirmed the gears were down but could not confirm that they were locked. Mr. Loveless then flew the aircraft over boonton reservoir where he tried unsuccessfully to "g" load the gear to lock. Returning to cdw Mr. Loveless landed the aircraft on runway 22 at 1341L without incident. During roll out Mr. Loveless shut down the engine to minimize possible engine damage in the event the landing gear collapsed. The aircraft was towed to the mac dan hangar where maintenance found a broken landing gear micro switch. A malfunction or defect report (FAA form 8010-4) was filed. There was no damage to the aircraft and no injuries. No further action required.
