From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Challenger ii kit was sold to pilot and he attempted to assemble kit. A inspection by the seller inform the pilot/owner of numerous errors in construction or assembly of aircraft. The discrepancies were corrected by another pilot. The aircraft crashed on first flight. No failure were indicated. This is not a ultra-light. However it was represented as one by the seller. The pilot's only certificate was an expired student pilot. The accident was not investigated at first due to fact that the FSDO was informed that it was an ultra-light. The craft was not registered and did not have a n number.
