From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-16) Pilot was making a full stop following a series of touch and go landings. According to pilot touchdown was smooth and at the point selected on the runway. Just before the tail touched down on the runway a gust of wind suddenly raised the left wing sufficient enough to cause the left wheel t clear the ground and the right wingtip to contact the ground. The aircraft swerved right causing the left wheel to go off into the turf on the left side of the runway, the tail to raise despite full back stick, the prop tips to contact the runway pavement grinding the tips and the left wing (lower) to contact the ground causing substantial damage to the left wing. Pilot was able to recover control of the aircraft back on the runway and come to a complete stop. Pilot stated the initial tilt was so sudden and positive that he had no chance to correct it. Pilot has approximately 500 hours in this aircraft.
