From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Hard landing in soybeans. Unable to pull more pitch to flare on practice landing. Chopped tail. Belated pitch use. (-23) a flight instructor and student on an instructional flight were returning to the base of operation. The student was attempting to make a steep approach to a confined area. The instructor realized that the approach would be short of the intended landing area and instructed the student to level off. The descent was not arrested, and the instructor attempted to assist the student too late resulting in a hard landing. Damage occurred to the main rotor, tail boom tail rotor, and landing skids. The pilots were not injured.
