From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

As it did it struck the windscreen and cracked it. privacy data omitted The cowling dropped into the ocean. Pilot nappa told ATC he had an emergency and was electing to make a landing at Fisher Island Elizabeth field. Pilot nappa stated he couldn't see out the front windscreen due to the oil. He was using the side windows. He called in on UNICOM that he was making emergency landing at Elizabeth field. He did circle and landed on runway 30. On landing he stomped on the brakes because he couldn't see forward. Came to a stop on the runway but did some damage to the right main gear. Mechanics examined the aircraft and observed that only half the cowling had torn away. The left half was still secured on the aircraft. They could not explain why the right side of the cowling had come loose. There were no injuries or fire in this incident.
