From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: the pilot stated that at 12:15 local on December 14, 1995, after back taxiing for departure on runway 20, at Altoona, PA, the pilot of N139JR, DC-3 swung to the left to turn around on the runway. The aircraft slid on the ice, causing the left main wheel to come very close to the runway lights. The pilot shut down the aircraft and after determining how close he was to the edge, he got the Blair county airport maintenance personnel to remove the breakaway lights. He then started the engines and turned the aircraft around, departing safely on runway 20. No injuries, no damage. Submission of this report closes this incident.
