From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Had pilot co owner on board. Restricted to pilot only test catagory. Observed in aerobatics. Crash not observed. (-23) on December 23, 1995 at approximately 1234 pm, N2114Z, a lance air, experimental amateur home built aircraft crashed while conducting flight operations approximately 6 miles north of Morris, MN. Mr. Jerry a. mumm was acting as pilot in command, he was flying in the right seat. Another pilot occupied the left seat, Mr. Carl c. johnson, an ATP rated pilot. It is reported that he was receiving familiarization training from Mr. Mumm in this aircraft. He was co-owner of N2114Z. We have 2 witnesses that have indicated they saw the aircraft prior to the crash conducting operations that consisted of high speed dives with climbs back to approximately 2000 feet. After the aircraft returned to altitude it would wind over and repeat the maneuver. 2 persons indicated they saw the aircraft conducting the stated operations, but no one saw the aircraft crash. Both pilots expired in the crash of the aircraft. The aircraft was destroyed in the crash. Visual meteorological conditions existed at the time of the accident.
