From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: history of flight; on 01/07/96, at 12:30 CST a Cessna 421-A, N422RD, registered to sam's investments, inc., landed at 1M1 when the nose gear collapsed. The aircraft had departed 1M1 at 12:00 CST enroute to hez. Approximately 5KM south of 1M1 a gear unsafe light came on inflight. The pilot decided to stay in the lit control area and tried several times to recycle the gear unsuccessfully. The pilot then decided to return to 1M1 to land. Minor damage was done to the aircraft. The pilot nor passenger were injured. The pilot is a certificated commercial pilot. Damage to the aircraft both nose gear doors and both engine props received substantial damage. Test and research: a visual inspection revealed a broken nose gear, wheel well bulkhead holding the up-lock mechanism broke preventing the gear from locking in the up position. This incident is closed.
