From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: after takeoff, at 400 feet AGL, the pilot reported he smelled "electrical" smoke and saw a 4" long, 1" diameter column of smoke near the fuel gauge. Pilot declared an emergency, shut off master, and landed as soon as master was shut off, the smoke stopped. Aircraft landed without further incident. Incident closed. Apparent cause of the failure malfunction or defect: no problem found. Opened and checked all wire bundles for burnt or hardened wires behind the panel. Removed and checked fuel level and pressure gauges and ammeter. Consulted with Piper service and accident reps. All aircraft electrical systems are functioning normally extensively flight tested aircraft testing all electrical systems. Air craft returned to service with restriction for vfr/day flight only for the next ten hours of service.
