From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: throttle jammed. On February 8, 1996, at approximately 1730 (CST) Piper, PA28-140, N4449X, experienced a jammed throttle and made an emergency landing 60 yards short of the approach end of runway 34 marhsfield (mfi) Wisconsin. The private pilot and one passenger did not report any injuries. The aircraft sustained minor damage. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. A flight plan was not filed. On febraury 9, 1996, the site was visited and the pilot interviewed. The pilot stated that on final he wanted to apply power but the throttle would not move. After several attempts to free the throttle, he landed short of the runway investigation of the throttle integrity revealed a bend in the throttle housing (sheath) at the carburetor end causing interference with the throttle movement near the idle setting. Due to damage sustained by the aircraft it cannot be determined if this interference was existing prior to impact or a result of the impact. A malfuction of defect report, FAA form 8010-4, has been submitted pertinent to this incident.
