From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: pilot and one passenger departed canon city, CO, on a VFR flight to san angelo, Texas. After departing canon city, CO, the pilot tried to contact fss to file a flight plan but the radio was inoperative. The pilot continued the flight to east of lubbock, Texas, where he became disoriented and decided to find an airport and buy fuel. At this point he attempted two approaches to Knox City, and on the second go-around, while banking to the left, the engine quit due to fuel starvation. This forced the pilot to land approximately 100 yards west of the runway causing minor damage to the aircraft. This investigation is closed. privacy data omitted
