What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
Narrative: pilot reported that on 3-4-96 at 1137AM after passengers had boarded the aircraft and crew was preparing for departure: that sparks, smoke and flames were noticed coming from the non-essential bus #2 circuit breaker panel, next to the first officer's seat, of the dornier 328, N328PH. The crew shut down the power of the non-essential bus and deplaned the passengers into the terminal area. After deplaning the passengers the crew shut off all aircraft power which stopped the fire and prevented it from spreading. Subsequent investigation showed that a lighting panel subassembly of the circuit breaker panel p/n 11-1262-150 had failed causing smoke and flames in the cockpit. This discrepancy was corrected by removing and replacing the circuit breaker panel. This investigation is closed.
