From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: MC-9 tower air B-747, was on a ferry positioning flight to dfw airport, TX. Upon reaching terminal 2W at dfw airport, MC-9 was cleared to gate 18. The ramp on terminal 2W is uncontrolled. Approaching gate 18, MC-9 acquired a lead guideman and two wing walkers. Tower air has a contract WI th amr services for ground handling| MC-9 received hand signals to taxi to final position on gate 18. The check airman (PIC) in the right seat observed that there was not sufficient clearance between MC-9 and a TWAA017A DC-9 (N993Z) parked on gate 17 (right of gate 18) to continue. He applied the aircraft brakes and stopped the B-747. The B-747'S right wing tip struck the twaa DC-9'S rudder. The twra B-747 had several cracked panels on the right outer wing. The twaa DC-9 had a six inch by six inch gash in the rudder above the trim tab. The twaa DC-9 was hooked up to a tug for relocation to another gate and occupied only by a maintenance person to ride/guard the aircraft brakes. Investigation revealed. 1. That the right wing walker was improperly positioned and was unable to see the clearance problem and continued the clear visual signal. 2. There is not proper clearance to park a B-747 on gate 18 with any aircraft parked on gate 17. 3. There are no published notices in regards to 2. Above. This incident is closed.
