From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on Thursday, March 14, 1996, N287FE, a Boeing 727-2D4, operated by federal express as flight 3608, experienced a main cargo door warning light illumination while en route from denver, co (den), to indianapolis, in (ind). The flight crew elected to divert to Omaha, NE (oma), where an uneventful landing was made. Maintenance investigation could not reveal the cause of the door warning indication, and the main cargo door was deferred per the fdea B-727 approved minimum equipment list under item 52-4 a, and the aircraft was dispatched to the original destination. Further maintenance investigation revealed light receptacle part number STB-13-4 arp was shorted causing the door warning indication. The light receptacle (socket) was removed and replaced and the aircraft was returned to service. S.d.r. (mis) to be submitted to fdea cmu, ASO-FSDO-25. This incident is closed with this report.
