From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on April 10, 1996, at approximately 0841 MDT, a department of justice convair 580 landed on runway 26L at El Paso International Airport in El Paso, TX completing a short test flight following routine maintenance. During landing rollout the crew observed substantial smoke coming from the left main gear. They taxied the aircraft off the runway and declared emergency for which the fire department responded. A post incident inspection of the landing gear revealed an "o" ring in the hydraulic system had failed leaking hydraulic fluid onto a hot brake assembly which created smoke but did not result in a fire. The aircraft received minor damage. There were no injuries.
