From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on may 9, 1996, at approx. 1130 hours EDT, a Cessna 150J, N60429, owned by ez flying club, experienced a partial loss of power and executed a precautionary landing at a Private Airport at rotonda, Florida. The nose landing gear collapsed during the landing roll. VFR flight conditions prevailed in the area and no flight plan was filed for the local personal flight. The aircraft received minor damage and the Private pilot, sole occupant, was not injured. The flight originated at charlotte county airport (pgd), punta gorda, Florida, at approximately 0930 hours EDT, that day. The pilot reported that after several hours of pleasure flying, the engine RPM dropped from 2,300 to 1,900 at an altitude of 2,000' AGL. He immediately located a nearby Private Airport with paved runway 5,000' x 75'. He recalled selecting carb heat - on and saw a decrease in RPM; therefore, carb heat was selected off. He closed the throttle; however, the engine did not respond. He flew a normal traffic pattern and touched down fast and hard. The nose wheel axle failed from overload and the aircraft came to rest 290 feet from the touchdown point. Propeller slashes in the runway indicated approx. 1,022 RPM based on reported touchdown speed of 80 mph. He did not think to close mixture of ground mags until after the mishap. Inspection of the engine compartment revealed sooted spark plugs and broken carb heat cable. All other engine controls operated properly. privacy data omitted
