From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft engine quit during climb, attempted to return, and land, crashed on landing. (-23) pilot reported a substantial vibration and shudder on takeoff, pilot witnessed something depart the front of aircraft and heard several cracking noises. Pilot reduced power and attempted to land in a field. During the final approach the aircraft rolled to the left and the pilot could not stop the roll with full right aileron deflection. The aircraft impacted the ground nose low, separating the engine and instrument panel from the aircraft. The aircraft was destroyed with only minor injuries to the pilot.
