From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on 05/14/96 flight 411 took off from Trenton-Mercer County Airport (ttn) en route to bos. After levelling at 10,000 ft. and within 12-15 minutes the flight crew reported a slight uncommanded yaw to the right approximately 20-30 seconds. The flight crew described the experience as "like someone gave a quiet stab at the rudder pedal - slight but noticeable, more of a thump than a yaw". The rudder pedals remained stationary. The thumps occurred five times and appeared to happen while turning the aircraft into right banks. No reported injuries to flight crew or passengers. The flight returned to ttn and landed without incident. During the inspection there appeared to be no damage to the aircraft. The flight crew stated that they accomplished the abnormality check list in which they turned off the autopilot and yaw dampener in flight during the incident. It was noted that this procedure had no effect on the defective rudder system. The above incident has been forwarded to the cmo and NTSB for further investigation. This reporting FSDO considers this matter closed.
