Narrative: on may 30, 1996, at 1940 hours, a Cessna 150M, N2950V, registered to francis mahoney, sheared the left hand main landing gear at the axle attachment point during an attempted landing at Reigle airport, Palmyra, PA while on a pleasure flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and no flight plan was filed. The aircraft received minor damage and the pilot and passenger were not injured. The flight originated at pottsville, PA at 1915 hours. During the first approach to Reigle airport, the pilot decided to do a go-around which was successful. On the second attempt, the aircraft was set up for a landing to runway 13, all settings and speed corrections were made, and the aircraft floated and would not settle onto the runway. At the final 200 feet on runway 13, the decision was made to do another go-around. Carburetor heat was turned off and full power applied, however, no flap adjustment was made and the flaps remained in full down position. The aircraft was only a few feet above the ground when it went beyond the end of the runway, crossed over a road, and struck a small dirt bank with left-hand main landing gear causing it to separate from the left-hand main landing gear leg. The aircraft then bounced once and skidded approximately 150 feet and came to rest in an unplowed field. The pilot stated that when power was applied for the go-around, the aircraft did not climb enough to clear the dirt bank. The pilot also stated there were no mechanical malfunctions before or during the time of this incident. privacy data omitted This incident is considered closed.
