From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: the aircraft departed scottsbluff, NE enroute to gordon, NE on a VFR flight. Shortly after reaching a cruising altitude of 7500', the engine lost power. Several attempts to regain engine power failed. The aircraft landed in a beet field approximately 11 miles from the Alliance, NE airport at 301 degrees. Only minor damage to the landing gear doors were sustained. The investigation revealed the bendix D4LN-3021 magneto had fallen off of the engine. The lower nut, washer and hold-down clamp were missing. The upper nut, washer and clamp were laying on the magneto. The magneto was reinstalled, engine run-up was performed, and the aircraft was flown out off the road. The aircraft had an annual inspection signed off on June 1, 1995, at 2205.2 hours. The aircraft now has 2389.0 hours on it. This incident is closed with this report.
