From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: a two seat buckeye parasail aircraft struck wires while attempting to depart a farm field at Almond, Wisconsin on June 11, 1996. The pilot of the aircraft, jerry k. knutson and his passenger received minor injuries. The aircraft received minor damage to the parachute. Mr. Knutson reported that he had previously taken off from the same field without any problems. The field is approximately 600 feet long with trees on the east end and wires on the west end. He stated that at the time of the occurrence, the winds were calm and the air was very humid. Mr. Knutson estimated the weight of the passenger at 240 lbs. He stated that he always departed with full fuel. A sales brochure for the aircraft indicates a maximum payload of 450 pounds. This would have put the "aircraft" at gross weight on the takeoff .Mr. Knutson stated he had approximately 10 hours of flight time in the buckeye. He stated that he had not previously operated the aircraft at such a heavy weight. Mr. Knutson stated that he had taken flying lessons about 8 years ago in a Cessna airplane and had accumulated approximately 40 hours of flight time but had not gotten his pilot certificate. Mr. Knutson reported that the aircraft and its engine were operating normally at the time of the incident. Inspectors k. krueger and c. vuksanovic of the milwaukee FSDO inspected the aircraft on June 12, 1996. The aircraft did not bear a registration number or an airworthiness certificate. Mr. Knutson stated that he does not hold a pilot certificate. Mr. Knutson stated that he was not aware of any certification requirements for either himself or the aircraft. He stated he bought the aircraft from a dealer in stanley, Wisconsin and no mention of any regulatory requirements for operating the aircraft.
