From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: aircraft was on an IFR flight from destin, FL to Auburn, AL. Pilot was cleared to descend to 2,500 feet for his arrival into the Auburn airport. Pilot stated that after increasing the mixture control to full rich, shortly thereafter the engine failed. Engine would not respond to throttle application. Pilot switched to the opposite fuel tank, complied with the engine failure emergency procedure, and engine still would not respond to throttle application. Pilot made off airport, night emergency forced landing in a plowed corn field. Upon touchdown, the aircraft slid to stop. Left main gear collapsed and retracted in wheel well. Post incident investigation revealed minor damage to landing gear assembly and right wing tip. Fuel on board was estimated by visual sight gauge on wing and observing fuel in tanks as approximately 8 gallons of fuel in the right main tank and 12 gallons of fuel in left main tank. Engine failed due to unknown causes. Will request mdr after analysis. This incident is closed.
