From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on June 29, 1996, at about 0900 adt, a wheel equipped Piper PA-18, owned and piloted by craig t. hartman was involved in a landing attempt at an unnamed beach near tyonek that resulted in incidental damage to the airplane. He was operating under the provisions of 14 CFR 91 and carried one passenger. Mr. Hartman stated that he circled the landing area 5 or 6 times and performed two low approaches looking for any obstructions. None were seen by either he or his passenger. Approximately 5 seconds after touchdown, he said he felt a big thump. He immediately powered up and made a takeoff. After becoming airborne, he said the right gear was pointing straight out from the fuselage. Mr. Hartman then contacted Anchorage ATC for clearance back to Anchorage. He landed at Anchorage International on runway 24R with only minor damage. There were no injuries to the pilot or passenger. Mr. Hartman was counseled on landing procedures on rough, off-airport sites.
