From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: operator departed longmont (2V2) on a pleasure flight. Approaching a private airstrip at vanair, pilot flew 45 deg. To downwind and attempted a landing on runway 11. He increased power on base leg but engine did not respond. He switched on the fuel boost pump to no avail. The aircraft landed short of the runway striking a telephone connector box in line with the runway, crossed over an irrigation ditch and rolled up and onto the runway. At that time, engine power was again available so pilot taxied the aircraft to a friend's hangar. No further action required.
