From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: incident occurred at approximately 1425 hours (PDT). Aircraft departed elko, Nevada July 15, 1996, at approximately 0930 hours (PDT) enroute to Boulder City, Nevada (bld). Upon arrival at bld pilot attempted to lower gear. Gear released but did not fully extend. Pilot determined that the failure of the landing gear to fully extend was due to a lack of hydraulic pressure. Operation of the emergency pump produced zero (o) pressure. Pilot tried various maneuvers to extend gear with no success. Pilot landed the aircraft with landing gear not fully extended. Upon contact with the runway, the aircraft skidded left of the runway into the dirt, causing minor damage to the left elevator, tail tie down area and front gear door. Investigation revealed that the gear failure was due to system hydraulic fluid depletion caused by a broken hydraulic line on the system hydraulic power unit. The break in the hydraulic line was caused by chafing against a bulkhead. M or d report submitted. No NMAC report or pilot deviation report filed. This report and investigation are closed.
