From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: on August 8, 1996, hawaiian airlines DC-9-51 aircraft N420EA nose landing gear collapsed during landing roll out. There were no injuries to the crew or passengers. The flight no. 1133 departed Honolulu, HI (hnl) destined for lihue, kauai. The flight returned to hnl without landing at lihue when the unsafe nose gear indication was observed during approach to lihue. Investigation revealed that the flight crew observed alignment marks on the nose gear linkage through an inspection window in the cockpit, which confirmed that the nose gear was not locked down. Maintenance was performed prior to flight 1133 when a temporary line was installed between the left and right steering actuator.. The temporary line installed was not properly secure and resulted in the line restricting the movement of the overcenter link mechanism. privacy data omitted
