From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: pilot indicated he was climbing out of Heber, Utah after an eaa fly-in when the passenger side door left the aircraft. The door did not cause any damage as it left the fuselage. The pilot landed at provo, Utah without incident. Even though there was some turbulence, the pilot felt it was no factor. Investigation reveals that a mod was put in this aircraft for a quick release door like on aerobatic aircraft. The IA mechanic which received the aircraft ror repair indicated the pins and rods were bent previously like someone mistaked the red handle for the normal handle. When the person realized they were opening the door with the wrong handle, they forced the handle back into it's original position bending the pins. The door is being replaced with the emergency handle release being removed. This is a final report and is closed.
