From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: after taxiing an almost straight line from the hangar to the run-up area, Mr. Ryan applied brakes to stop the aircraft. While applying the brakes, Mr. Ryan noticed that the left brake system did not respond to his application. Mr. Ryan was able to stop the aircraft, but not before the right propeller system struck a taxi light. Damage to the aircraft was limited to the right propeller system and to the right lower nose section. Maintenance inspected the brake system and found the left and right reservoirs empty. There was no indication of any leaks in the brake system. Maintenance found both the left and right brake reservoirs empty. The date of the last annual inspection was 10/21/95. The date of the incident was 10/31/96. The only maintenance recorded in the aircraft logbook since the annual was a battery installation on 09/11/96.
