From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-16) PIC stated that during climbout, passing thru 4000 MSL, while traversing the student practice area located about 10 miles northeast of felts field (sff). PIC was setting GPS nau equipment when he felt a "thump". PIC thought he'd seen a "flash of white" out of the corner of his eye & assumed a large bird had been involved. Inflight visual inspection showed RH main gear leg to be broken about 6 inches from wheel/brake assy. The pilot was counseled by operations inspectors regarding "see and avoid" principles.
