From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Aircraft lost power after takeoff at 1000' MSL. Pilot made a forced landing in a dirt field approximately 2 miles east of airport at Atlanta, Texas (ata). Aircraft sustained substantial damage during landing when the aircraft struck a tree and then landed hard. The main landing gear collapsed, left wing was damaged, and the bottom side of the engine impacted hard causing crushing of the bottom part of the engine. The propeller struck the ground which bent one blade aft and bent the forward part of the crankshaft and propeller flange. The crankcase was cracked at the forward end of the crankshaft. The passenger riding in the front cockpit was rendered unconscious after bumping his head on the instrument panel glareshield and was admitted to the hospital for treatment and observation. Pilot received minor injuries not requiring hospital treatment. There was no post crash fire. Passenger was assisted in egressing aircraft by fire department personnel.
